Grammar Focus

like / love / don’t like / hate + -ing

Question pattern: Do you like + -ing? — Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.

can / can’t (ability)

I can swim. · She can’t play the piano. · Can you cycle? — Yes, I can. / No, I can’t.

Natural Responses

Me too. / Me neither. (A1-friendly). Use to agree with likes/dislikes.

Pronunciation tip: Link “like reading”, “love hiking”. Drop the /g/ slightly in fast speech: “hikin’”.

Speaking Task: “My Free-Time Poster”

In pairs, create a mini poster (or digital slide) about your hobbies and abilities.

Include: 3–4 activities you like/love; 1–2 you don’t like/hate; 2 abilities with can/can’t.

Report: “This is Mei. She loves hiking and cooking. She doesn’t like gaming. She can swim, but she can’t play the guitar.”
