In this unit, students learn the basic structure of a clear B1 paragraph: topic sentence → supporting details → concluding sentence. Students practice linkers for clarity (because, for example, however, therefore, first/next/finally), write a paragraph, and use a feedback checklist to improve it.
States the main idea clearly (one idea).
Tip: don’t add too many details here.
Add reasons, facts, and examples (2–3 sentences).
Use linkers like because, for example, also.
Ends the paragraph with a summary or final thought.
Linkers: in conclusion, overall, so.
One paragraph = one main idea. If you have two ideas, write two paragraphs.
• also • in addition • moreover
Example: I enjoy reading. Also, I like writing.
• because • so • therefore • for example
Example: I study every day because I want to improve.
• however • but • although
Example: I was tired. However, I finished my work.
• first • next • then • finally
Example: First, I plan. Next, I write.
Add a linker (because / for example / however / therefore):
1) I like my city. ____, it has many parks.
2) I wanted to go out. ____, it was raining.
3) I practiced speaking every day. ____, my confidence improved.
Write your plan first:
• Main idea (topic sentence): ____
• Support 1: ____ (because/for example)
• Support 2: ____ (also/however)
• Conclusion: ____
Revise your paragraph by making 3 improvements:
1) Improve the topic sentence
2) Add/replace one supporting example
3) Add/fix at least one linker
Swap placeholders with real file paths. Keep links consistent:
